I don’t know about you, but we do devotions . . . um . . . most mornings as we get started with our day. That’s why I was pretty excited about this opportunity to review a new devotional and offer an extra copy to you as a giveaway. More about how to enter at the end of this post. (It’s super simple, I promise!)
Recently, I have been more convicted to encourage my children to have their own time with God. So after a brief Bible lesson (which may be a devotional, something historical, something cultural, a bit of apologetics or some seasonal bit of fun), they each grab their TAWG journal and their own devotional they picked out at the store and find a quiet place to read.
What is TAWG, you ask?
So the purpose is right there on the cover of their journals and it is made all the better by the fact my four year old insists it is FROG time.
And my girls are excited to get started with this one!
For the purpose of review, we looked at a few of devotions together. They each start off with a verse and then offer a brief (usually two paragraph) insight into the verse. Each one closes with a sort of challenge to apply the verse to your life. After that, there are some lines that I am sure are just decorational. I mean, you certainly could jot down your own thoughts and struggles, but that would require writing. In a book.
I had a hard enough time with that back in college. But I hear people do it and enjoy it, so if that is your daughter, there is a small section at the end of each devotion for personal reflection.
My daughters appreciated that the text was easy to understand but did not talk down to them. The book is also just pretty. That may not be your number one concern when looking for a devotional for the young women in your life, but it defitinitely does help make it personal and enjoyable. The central message that God loves and adores you was also clear and well received.
I will note that the age range on this is 13 and up and it is certainly appropriate for teens. My girls are a little younger (12 and 10), but they obviously connected with it as well. That may be because they have been doing devotions on their own for awhile so they are used to the format and type of reading required. Some of the devotions do deal with dating, however, so that may not be as relevant to younger girls. At the same time, I tell my daughters it is easier to decide what you believe and determine your boundaries before you are tempted than it is to back peddle after the fact!
If you would like more information, visit the book’s own personal landing page here: Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women. Best of all, it is on sale (at least as of writing this post!)
